    Nature of Work

    This is supervisory, professional work in overseeing and coordinating recreation, athletic and event programming. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Recreation Supervisor to provide program management supervision.
     
    Work includes planning, organizing and directing a variety of aquatic, youth, adult and teen activities/programs.  Participates with the Recreation Supervisor to select and hire non-permanent support staff and instructors for program and event operations. Work involves overseeing and supervising non-permanent staff.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Interacts with the Risk Manager for the City for compliance and mitigation resources.
    • Plans, coordinates and oversees all aspects of assigned recreation programs, classes and activities, including, but not limited to, scheduling of staff and facilities, program content, length and budget requirements, and coordination with outside user groups.
    • Responds to participant and potential participant questions, concerns and complaints.
    • Interacts with departmental administrative staff on questions regarding scheduling, programs, operations and enrollments.
    • Conducts participant and other surveys of recreational program and program needs as needed developing performance metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs).
    • Researches trends and new programs for design and implementation for program development, quality and growth.
    • Studies recreation needs and recommends changes and/or improvements to existing programs; creates new programs and activities based on demand and need.
    • Performs other work as assigned.
    Minimum Training and Experience
    Required Education and Experience
    • Two (2) years of college coursework in recreation administration, public administration or closely related field
    --AND--
    • Two (2) years of experience as a recreation leader or administrator
    --OR--
    • Any equivalent combination of training 
    Required License
    • Michigan driver’s license
