Job Summary
Performs work under direct and intermittent supervision of a Spicer Leader, Supervisor or Journeyman Cable Splier in the field. Works and studies at a training center to become a Splicer Specialist, following an established apprenticeship course.
Key Accountabilities- Under direct and intermittent supervision of a Supervisor, builds, installs, removes, repairs and maintains joints, potheads, terminals and accessories on distribution, URD, commercial feeders, streetlight and telephone cable systems and operating telephone or secondary conductors.
- Works from blueprints, diagrams, manuals and written instructions.
- Uses test equipment, power and hand tools.
- Drives, operates and works from radio-equipped trucks.
- Assists higher rated splicers in all phases of installation, removal, repair and maintenance of underground and aerial cable systems and equipment as required.
- Subject to work during off hours when necessary for efficient progress of the job or in case of emergency.
- Must have a High School Diploma or GED.
- Must be physically able to lift and handle up to 80 pounds.
- Must meet company driving standards.
- Must hold, or acquire before the transfer date, a Group "A" Commercial Driver's License with air brake endorsement, plus an "X" endorsement combining the "N" endorsement for Tank Vehicles and the "H" endorsement for Hazardous Materials. Canadian citizens must secure an Ontario Class "A" license with a "Z" air brake endorsement and the appropriate endorsements for Tank Vehicles and Hazardous Materials transport. Drivers holding the Classified Endorsement Temporary Instruction Permit must obtain a Group "A" Commercial Driver's License promptly upon certification by Employee Training. You must be at least 21 years old to qualify for this license or permit.
