  • Shilpan A. Amin, GM senior vice president and president, GM International.

    Amin was formerly vice president, GM Global Purchasing and Supply Chain, a position he has held since November 2019. In this role, Amin is responsible for the strategic direction of GM's worldwide purchasing, supply chain and logistics operations. Drawing on extensive technical expertise as a leader in purchasing and engineering, he is focused on managing GM's $75 billion annual supply chain spend. Amin’s team collaborates with more than 13,000* global suppliers to deliver exceptional vehicle quality, innovation and value to GM customers, along with a commitment to achieve long-term sustainability and accelerating diversity and inclusion in the supply base. Under Amin’s direction, GM is building a strong, resilient and scalable EV supply chain to support GM’s goal to lead the industry in electrification.

    In the most recent North American OEM-Tier 1 Supplier Working Relationship Index, a widely recognized benchmark, GM saw a 20-point increase year over year and demonstrated continuous improvement in key areas, including OEM Communications and OEM-Supplier Relationships. Additionally, GM was the first automotive OEM to establish a Supplier Diversity program in 1968. Since then, GM has spent more than $100 billion with Tier 1 diverse suppliers.

    Prior to this role, Amin was executive director of Global Purchasing Interiors and Exteriors for General Motors where he led a team of 200 members and more than 600 suppliers.

    Amin began his career with GM in 1996 as a product engineer in Advanced Product Development for steering systems. He has held various leadership roles within GM’s Vehicle Engineering and Global Purchasing and Supply Chain organizations, including executive director of Global Purchasing and Supply Chain Program Management, and executive director of Global Propulsion Systems Engineering Vehicle Integration and Operations.

    Amin serves as the vice chairman of the Board of Directors for the Michigan Minority Supplier Development Council. He is a member of the external Board of Directors for the Asian Pacific American Chamber of Commerce and Pure Watercraft and the Board of Directors Advisory Committee of Focus: HOPE. He also serves as the lead executive chair of the Board of Directors for the General Motors Asian Connections Business Resource Group. He previously served on the Board of Directors for the Pontiac Regional Chamber and General Motors Global Propulsion Systems Venture Capital and continues to lead the Forward Marine project to use GM’s electrification technology leadership to transform the marine industry.

    He has earned certificates in Leading Global Business and Accelerating Board Diversity from Harvard Business School, as well as a Transformational Leadership certificate from Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business. Amin holds two advanced degrees: a master’s degree in engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and an MBA from the University of Southern California Marshall School of Business. He earned his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Michigan State University.
