DTE Energy is offering payment relief options for federal employees impacted by the shutdown. The government shutdown has left thousands of federal workers without pay for more than 40 days creating real hardship for Michigan families.
To ease this burden, eligible customers can request a 30-day pause on bill collection without penalties, providing critical breathing room during this difficult time. To request a hold, customers can call DTE at (800) 477-4747.

Starting Wednesday, Nov. 12, federal employees can request a 30-day pause on bill collection. This temporary hold is designed to provide relief and ease financial stress for federal workers waiting for their pay to restart.
To request a collection hold, call DTE at (800) 477-4747. We’re available Monday – Friday between 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. to coordinate this assistance. Customers will need to provide documentation showing they or a member of their household is a federal employee. Accepted documents include:
- Recent pay stub
- W2
- Furlough letter
- Federal Employee ID
A license or state ID may be requested if the federal employee is not the primary account holder.
