    Nature of Work

    This is a highly skilled lead worker position who oversees skilled trades, mechanics, and assistants engaged in the maintenance and repair of city operations for the environmental treatment plants, pumping stations, and storm water collection systems. The lead worker is responsible for improving and sustaining efficiency and effectiveness of maintenance procedures and standard job plan activities. Another primary duty of this position is to coordinate projects and research industry standards and best business practices. This position will provide ongoing planning services system wide and will provide recommendations for improvement throughout the environmental and water system enterprise services. Work is performed under the general supervision of a supervisor.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Plans and schedules maintenance work based on demand, workload, skill sets, and available parts; inspects work locations; uses the computer, CMMS, and other resources to develop plans.
    • Coordinates maintenance activities between operations and maintenance, other staff, contractors, vendors, and other agencies as required.
    • Stays abreast of engineering projects and uses this information in planning and scheduling maintenance and repair work.
    • Coordinates equipment removal, installation, and power outages with staff during work on the modification of existing facilities.
    • Assists in developing technical specifications to outside vendors for goods and services.
    • Works with Engineering and Operations/Maintenance to develop and recommend changes to mechanical, electrical, and instrument preventive and corrective maintenance and lubrication programs.
    • Advises supervisors of critical and continuing maintenance problems.
    • Works with the staff and warehouse personnel to ensure an adequate supply of maintenance parts and materials are maintained at recommended inventory levels; develops a bill of materials for all maintenance activities.
    • Assists in identifying and recommending training needs, equipment, specifications and standards to help maintain consistent maintenance practices throughout the City.
    • Recommends data gathering activities and report formulas; determines reporting and analysis needs; sets up and prepares special and periodic reports of maintenance activities; produces weekly schedules, charts, and backlog reports for maintenance supervisors; and conducts weekly meetings for planning, scheduling, and coordinating projects.
    • Tracks all equipment information, including spare parts and prepares necessary documentation. 
    • Maintains records and logs as needed.
    • Performs other related duties as assigned.
    Minimum Training and Experience
    Required Education and Experience
    • High School diploma or GED 
    --AND--
    • Five (5) years of experience in the wastewater, water treatment/distribution, and storm water infrastructure field relating to operations, maintenance, service, and repair, including considerable maintenance and project coordination experience.
    --OR--
    • Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.  
    Preferred Education 
    • Attendance/completion of technical and/or management courses at the college level is also desirable.
    Required Licenses or Certifications
    • Michigan driver’s license
    • Possession of an “F”, “S”, or “D” series license as issued by State of Michigan EGLE, or other certifications pertaining to a specific water or wastewater area of employment
