    Nature of Work

    This is technical support work, performing a variety of laboratory tests on water and other substances. Work is performed under the continuing supervision of a Chemist and a Supervisor. The employee may be expected to give guidance and assistance to less experienced employees or seasonal workers.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES 

    The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.

    • Operates a variety of laboratory equipment; records measurements and other data.
    • Conducts a variety of tests on water in various stages of treatment to ensure that environmental standards are met; tests sludge and other treatment by-products.
    • Prepares or assists in the preparation of reports of daily test results.
    • Cleans, maintains, and stores equipment and instruments; washes sample containers; cleans and dusts laboratory equipment, countertops, and glassware.
    • Collects samples, prepares reagents, standards, and test solutions used in testing process.
    • Performs mathematical calculations based on raw laboratory data.
    • Designs and implements computer applications for the storing and analysis of data, as needed.
    • Performs other related duties as assigned
    Minimum Training and Experience

    Required Education and Experience
    • Graduation from high school 
    --AND--
    • Two (2) years of experience in conducting laboratory tests or closely related work 
    --OR--
    • Any equivalent combination of training and experience
