    The Senior Manager of Engineering is responsible for overseeing the work of several engineering teams for the planning, coordination, and execution of multiple engineering projects. They are the liaison between engineering front line leaders and senior leadership and stakeholders. Works with the senior leaders to develop and implement the company's engineering strategy. The Senior Manager of Engineering will be responsible for the development and implementation of engineering processes and best practices for Consumers. The Senior Manager of Engineering will also be responsible for the budgeting and forecasting of engineering costs for their teams and will liaise with other departments to ensure the smooth running of operations.

    This position is responsible for statewide oversight and management of engineering staff accountable for ensuring the successful completion of Make Ready work. Responsible for ensuring successful business operation in a cost-effective fashion while maintaining a safe work environment. This position must be able to work independently and lead a statewide group of employees to work with LVD Design, Electric Standards, Planning/Scheduling, Operations, State/Federal Government Affairs, Legal and Regulatory Affairs Organizations, Communication Companies, and the MPSC as the Consumers Energy representative for pole attachments. This position must be able to troubleshoot highly sensitive issues and agreements and is responsible for the image of Consumers Energy for pole attachments. Applies thorough understanding of policy and engineering practices coupled with leadership skills to resolve process and employee issues.

    The knowledge and skills involved with this position include but are not limited to:

    • Perform mid - level leadership responsibilities, ensuring the safe and successful completion of work
    • Effective leadership through the appropriate delegation of tasks

    • Ability to technically review and evaluate complex projects; financially approve projects up to $150,000
    • Engage in cross functional process improvement initiatives to reduce impact to customer rates as part of the plan, do, check, act process
    • Identify organization improvement opportunities and oversee the solution of complex problems
    • Perform disaster recovery assignments including overtime assignments for storms and electric emergencies
    • Proactively resolve high profile, governmental and legislative customer escalations
    • Must be proficient with all forms of communication, electronic, written, verbal and public speaking to effectively communicate with all stakeholders including Sr. Leadership (Directors, Executives, and VP's)

    In this role, you will:
    • Develop business strategies leveraging Lean principals from the CE way to achieve key performance indicators and EICP objectives including Customer On Time Delivery
    • Ability to anticipate internal and/or external business challenges, regulatory changes, and recommend solutions Review project proposals and plans to determine time frame, funding limitations, procedures for accomplishing project, staffing requirements, and allotment of available resources to various phases of project
    • Mentor, lead, and develop team members along with directing team who's coordination and technical work are responsible for the intake, project management, process, billing, receiving payment, surveying and post construction reviews of Make Ready work
    • Optimize processes for Make Ready work utilizing CE Way tools
    • Demonstrated creativity, foresight and mature engineering judgment in anticipating and solving unique and controversial engineering problems which may have an effect on major company programs and projects, determining program objectives and requirements, organizing programs and projects and developing standards and guides for diverse engineering activities
    • Lead development of and implementation of key organizational initiatives to improve on-time delivery and employee engagement
    • Support the long-term forecasting model for Business Planning System and Enterprise Resource Planning by assisting with short- and long-term staffing and financial forecasts
    • Responsible for managing a budget of expenses and reimbursements totaling over $75M
    • Ensure compliance with all Consumers Energy's policies and procedures, code compliance, and MPSC requirements
    • Plays independent advisor role - performing business scans - seeking our potential areas of risk in the business and directly challenging business unit leaders and accountable authorities on these areas - to ensure strong processes and alignment
    • Oversee all engineering projects from conception to completion, ensuring adherence to budget, schedule, and quality standards
    • Direct and coordinate activities of projects through subordinate leadership personnel to ensure project progresses on schedule and within prescribed budget
    • Confer with project personnel to outline work plan and to assign duties, responsibilities, and scope of authority
    • Establish and monitor systems and procedures for measuring progress and for problem-solving with supervisors, project managers, engineers, and customers
    • Serve as the engineering department's primary point of contact for all project-related inquiries, concerns, and requests
    • Develop budgets, schedules, and performance standards for engineering teams
    • Investigate complaints about engineering products or services and take corrective action
    • Evaluate and select vendors for engineering supplies and equipment
    • Negotiate research contracts and agreements with outside contractors
    • Other non-essential duties as assigned or may be necessary
