APACC Receives an Honorable Mention at The Michigan Office of New Americans Appreciation Gala Featuring Ethnic Business Leader Awardees
Detroit, Michigan – As you may have seen and heard recently in the media, there is a disturbing tide against immigration and the myth that immigrants are taking jobs away from Americans. In order for the community to see the contributions of immigrants, with the Governor’s endorsement, MONA and three State of Michigan ethnic commissions (APIA, Hispanic and Arabic) hosted a New American Appreciation Gala appropriately themed “Building Unity and Creating Opportunity” on October 12, 2017 at the Ann Arbor Marriott Ypsilanti at Eagle Crest in Ypsilanti, Michigan to honor immigrant business leaders who have created a significant number jobs in the US.
The Governor’s New Americans Leadership Award honored the business contributions of Michiganders who effectuated Michigan’s dynamic and growing economy. The awards were presented to a distinguished member of the community whose work is a shining example of true labor market integration. Each commission recommended two businesses to MONA, from its respective communities, for the above-mentioned awards and two ethnic organizations/persons for honorable mention.
APACC is exceptionally honored to announce that both winners for the business awards for the APIA community were from the APACC family: Chairman Emeritus, Ron Shahani, CEO/President of Acro Service Corporation and former Board Director, Chain Sandhu, Chairman of NYX, Inc.
In addition, APACC is incredibly thrilled to have been selected as one of the six honorable mentions, alongside fellow business leader Minerva (Minnie) Morey of the West Michigan Asian American Association (WMAAA), as an organization that demonstrates tireless passion and commitment for APIA business community and improving the quality of life for APIAs in Michigan. In recognition of APACC’s service and commitment, APACC was recognized in the New Americans Appreciation Gala program book.
