    APACC Board Chair Meets U.S. Secretary of Transportation in Washington D.C.
     
    Washington, DC. – On March 23, 2017, APACC Board Chair, Grace Lee, was invited to attend a welcome reception for U.S. Secretary of Transportation Elaine Chao in Washington D.C. The reception was held in conjunction with the U.S. Department of Transportation’s 50th anniversary celebration and over 200 distinguished guests attended the invitation-only event to commemorate the extraordinary milestone.

    Secretary Chao laid out her vision and road map for the department. She recognized that technologydriven advances in mobility were poised to transform our lives and outlined strategies to address the inevitable challenges from such changes. She also emphasized the urgency to repair the nation’s decaying infrastructure.

    Other speakers and guests included Chairman of U. S. Senate Committee on Science, Commerce and Transportation, John Thune; 8th U.S. Secretary of Transportation, Elizabeth Dole; Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, Terry McAuliffe; President of Seafarer International Union of North America AFL-CIO; Chairman of U. S. House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, Bill Shuster; and, Senate Majority Leader, Mitch McConnell. Also present at the event, Former Secretary of Transportation Norman Mineta, who was the keynote speaker of APACC’s 2008 Annual Gala.

    Grace Lee shared APACC’s mission and vision with Secretary Chao and invited her to attend APACC’s 16th Annual Gala on April 29th, 2017 at MGM Grand Detroit. Secretary Chao is open to attending this year’s Gala and/or other APACC events as her schedule permits.

    Through our association with Washington D.C.-based Asian/Pacific Islander American Chamber of Commerce & Entrepreneurship (National ACE), APACC plans to continue to build its relationship with Secretary Chao and the U.S. Department of Transportation, as well as with other leaders and departments in Washington D.C. in the years ahead. We hope to assure that the interests of our members are represented in the nation’s capital.
