16 th Annual APACC Gala: Embracing Tomorrow, Today
Change Maker and Entrepreneurial Advocate Jimmy Ferguson
Livonia, Michigan – Jimmy Ferguson, President of Maxtab, Inc. will be the keynote speaker at APACC’s 16 th Annual Gala Celebration on Saturday, April 29, 2017 at the MGM Grand Detroit. Ferguson will deliver a captivating talk on his journey from education to owning and operating multiple businesses to co-founding a non-profit organization advocating for minority businesses and the Asian Pacific American community.
APACC’s pinnacle event each year, is expected to draw 700 guests, including top corporate executives from large U.S. and Asian businesses throughout the Midwest. As a passionate and dedicated educator, Mr. Ferguson held the esteemed position as the Assistant Vice President and Dean of Students at Arkansas Tech University while also serving as the Chairman of the Board of Directors for the National Association for Campus Activities (NACA), an appointment by then Governor, and former President of the United States, Bill Clinton to the Arkansas Governor’s Advisory Council on Volunteerism.
Although education had a special place in his heart, Mr. Ferguson, along with his wife, were eager to begin their pursuit of The American Dream as an entrepreneur. With hard work and diligence, their dreams came true as over the next 23 years they owned and operated over 23 McDonald’s restaurants in the greater Austin, Texas area.
During his career with McDonald’s, Mr. Ferguson served in many capacities for the corporation including the Chair of the Asian Business Vision Team, the President of Central Texas Operator’s Association, Chairman of Houston Region Leadership Council, Member of West Division Leadership Council, Member of National Leadership Council, and Chair of the National Asian Consumer’s Marketing Team. Additionally, Mr. Ferguson served as both the Vice Chair and the West Division President of the Asian McDonald’s Operators Association (AMOA).
In 2015, Mr. Ferguson was the recipient of the Minority Business & Entrepreneur Advocate of the Year Award from the Department of Commerce for his significant accomplishments in advocating minority business enterprise as an economic force in the global economy.
In addition to his numerous leadership roles that supported the needs, interests, and aspirations of small business owners, entrepreneurs, and corporate leaders, Mr. Ferguson also co-founded the Asian/Pacific Islander American Chamber of Commerce & Entrepreneurship (National ACE) to provide focused support to the growing number of women- and minority-owned businesses in the United States.
Currently, Mr. Ferguson is the President of Maxtab, Inc. and he also serves as a Board Director for the Asian/Pacific Island American Scholarship Fund and an Advisory Board Member for the Greater Austin Asian Chamber of Commerce.
