• New Workplace Safety Grants to Help MI Employers Protect Workers

The State of Michigan recently launched Michigan COVID-19 Safety Grant Program to provide small businesses with up to $10,000 in matching funds to help promote a safe workplace for employees and customers and help decrease the spread of COVID-19.

Applications must be submitted for consideration between Monday, July 27, and Friday, August 7. Grants will be awarded shortly after as part of the recent SB 690 appropriation of federal CARES Act funding. Anyone that submits an application after August 7 will be considered for a potential second phase if there are remaining funds. Each company can only be awarded one grant.

In order to apply, your business must have less than 250 employees and you must include a copy of your COVID-19 safety plan and summary of how the funds will be used to help improve workplace safety. These grants are designed to help provide PPE gear, health-related equipment, and COVID-19 training.

    Some acceptable uses include:

    • Purchasing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
    • Purchasing materials like physical barriers and hand washing stations to help reduce the spread of the virus
    • COVID-19 training for employees

Check out the program brochure for more information about the grant program and funding requirements. Businesses can apply for the grant here.
