    Lear Corporation is searching for Die Setup & Operators to join our expanding team in Traverse City Michigan! This full-time direct hire position starts at an hourly rate of $15.50 with a .70 cent shift premium option.     Job Description

    • Perform the basic progressive die change procedure for all presses, press operations, functions and settings; press ram adjustment, roll feed setting, progression setting, clamping dies in press, press guard adjustments, pilot release adjustment, etc.
    • Verify raw material to specifications and feed raw material through die.
    • Perform a visual check of first piece samples and analyze to determine if it will meet the minimal part requirements.
    • Make minor press adjustments within specifications that are necessary for the part to meet the minimal requirements.
    • Set up and operate all production equipment, take up and payoff set up and adjustments, use basic press room hand tools, and reading and interpreting blueprints.
    • Perform routine safety checks on presses/die changes.
    • Perform First Piece Inspection with precision checking tools such as but not limited to optical comparator, micrometers and digital calipers according to AQL.
    • Enter data into required computer programs.

    Minimum Requirements
    • Must pass a skill evaluation with a 75% in all three 3 categories
    • 6 months press operator experience or trainer and supervisor competency sign off
    • Requires inspection techniques: SPC and ability to work with and understand blueprints, use calipers and micrometers and related measurement equipment.
    • Must have working knowledge of computers - Windows based environment.
    • Experience with hand tools, equipment, and work aids commonly associated with this type of work

    Job Requirements
    • High school diploma or GED required.
    • Two years Press Operator experience preferred
    • Knowledge and experience on stamping presses and progressive dies
    • Basic computer skills and knowledge
    • Perform other duties as required by supervisor.
    • Knowledge of arithmetic is required
    • Basic skills in oral and written communication
    • Comply with all Environment, Health, and Safety {EH&S} rules and procedures.

    Die Setup & Operator Evaluations
    • Die Setup and Operator trainee evaluation will be made on a weekly basis.
    • Training will follow the training plan.
    • There is a 180-day qualification period.

    Working Conditions
    Degree of Physical Demands (Strength) usually associated with this classification: Moderately heavy work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Involves walking, standing, and stooping, on a frequent basis, with occasional kneeling and crouching. Involves occasional climbing to a relatively low height.

    Environmental conditions (Physical Surroundings) usually associated with this classification: The associate is subject to environmental conditions common to a plant environment, including cramped conditions between presses and enclosures. Some exposure to loud noise and oil.

    Environmental conditions (Hazards) usually associated with this classified: Hazards include exposure to sharp tooling, sharp material edges, moving machinery, cutting fluid, oil, and airborne particles.
