We are seeking a full-time Clinical Specialist to engage individuals who are experiencing homelessness, mental illness, and/or substance use disorders through the use of Motivational Interviewing while working alongside other professionals as part of the Grand Rapids Homeless Outreach Team (HOT). They will also provide crisis intervention and assessments in order to help link consumers to needed services and supports. Other tasks may include linking consumers to housing resources, employment opportunities, food, medical services, and other basic needs.
The Clinical Specialist will be a part of the Grand Rapids Homeless Outreach Team (HOT), a team focused on the holistic needs of the city’s homeless population. The team responds together to assist with community needs focusing on engagement and jail diversion. The team consists of a police officers, firefighters, Recovery Coaches, and Clinical Specialists. The team works in the community in areas like the Heartside District, Michigan/Fuller, Burton/Division, and other locations where individuals experiencing homelessness live and congregate. HOT is a problem-solving team that helps to engage, educate, and link homeless individuals to community resources. Starting hourly wage $19.11
Schedule: 4 ten-hour days, 6am – 5pm. Days of work will rotate each week, including weekends. Schedule may change based on business needs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:- Bachelor’s degree in human services related field (for example, Social Work, Education, Psychology, Sociology).
- Any combination of education, training and experience providing the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job will be considered.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation for job related use
- Strong organizational skills, with experience in person-centered planning
- Demonstrated understanding of persons with severe mental illness and substance use disorders.
- Demonstrated communications skills that effectively convey information
- Demonstrated active listening, i.e. listening to what other people say and asking appropriate questions
- Demonstrated time management skills
- Lived experiences with mental illness/developmental disabilities/substance use disorders valued
- Licensed BSW or MSW
- Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP): requires one-year full-time experience working with persons with mental illness and appropriate license/degree per State of Michigan
- Knowledge of trauma-informed theories, principles, and practices (includes multi-faceted understanding of concepts such as community trauma, intergenerational and historical trauma, parallel processes, and universal precautions).
