    Nature of Work

    The purpose of this job is to perform preventive maintenance, inspection and repairs to heavy equipment with a variety of gasoline and diesel engines. Responsible for preparing work orders and the requisition of parts and equipment for repair

     Knowledge of:

    • English grammar, spelling, punctuation
    • Modern office procedures, methods and computer equipment
    • Electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic systems, engine and drivetrain systems on numerous different kinds of units
    • Truck mounted equipment
    • Tools and equipment for repairs
    • Equipment operation and safety
    • Equipment, grease fitting locations, filter locations, fluid capacities, fluid types and proper applications
    • Equipment inspections, DOT regulations, tolerances and specs for component wear
    • Cityworks Asset Management software

    Skill in:
    • Interpersonal skills necessary to develop and maintain effective and appropriate working relationships
    • Performing a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature
    • Performing basic mathematical functions such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, and ratios
    • Assigning, prioritizing, monitoring, and reviewing work assignments

    Ability to:
    • Meet schedules and deadlines of the work
    • Understand and carry out oral and written directions
    • Accurately organize and maintain paper documents and electronic files
    • Maintain the confidentiality of information and professional boundaries
    • Read and understand service and parts manuals
    • Read diagrams and schematics

    Minimum Training and Experience
    • High school diploma (or GED equivalent) with training in automotive/heavy equipment/light equipment, gasoline or diesel engine repairs
    • At least two (2) years of experience performing automotive/heavy equipment/small engine mechanical repair and maintenance; and/or state certifications
    • Any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities

    Other Necessary Qualifications

    This is a 2nd shift position working from 3:30 pm to Midnight.

    Possession of a valid Michigan Commercial Driver's License, Class A with an N Endorsement OR the ability to obtain one within the six (6) month probationary period.
