    Department Summary:
    The ADMS SCADA Engineer/Analyst is responsible for maintaining the integrity of the Advanced Distribution Management System and data exchange capabilities with the Geographic Information System. This position develops/maintains real-time applications, databases, and displays that are used by the Distribution Control Center to monitor and control the grid. Examples include SCADA applications such as Volt/VAr optimization, distribution power flow, short circuit analysis, FLISR, conservative voltage reduction, ICCP, state estimation, and interfaces to the PI Historian.
    The position will be filled based upon qualifications and work experience and will have the following support responsibilities including Distribution Modeling, SCADA integration, Volt/Var optimization, other ADMS applications, PI Historian interfaces, protocols (DNP, Modbus, ICCP), and communication hardware. The preferred candidate would have a bachelor's degree in engineering or computer science, have a strong background in utility operations, familiarity with SCADA, and be proficient in using programming and scripting languages such as VB/VBA, C/C++/C#, PowerShell, Perl, Python, and T-SQL.
    The ADMS SCADA Engineer/Analyst applies an intensive and diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices in broad areas of assignments in related fields; makes decisions independently on engineering problems and methods; and represents the organization in meetings to resolve important questions. Requires the use of advanced techniques and the modification and extension of theories, precepts and practices of his/her field and related sciences and disciplines.
    This position reports to the SCADA Applications Supervisor in the Grid Technologies department located at Parnall East location of Consumers Energy in Jackson, MI and will require completion of a personal risk assessment, NERC CIP training, and FERC SOC training.

    Job Description/Responsibilities:
    • Support for the implementation and commissioning of new assets in the SCADA system
    • Develop, deploy, support, and maintain HMI (Human-Machine Interface) one-line displays and other real-time displays
    • Develop and maintain real-time ADMS system Network Operating Models
    • Maintain GIS integration/interface including change validation and implementation
    • Support and maintain Volt/Var optimization, distribution power flow, short circuit analysis, conservative voltage reduction, ICCP, state estimation, and interfaces to the PI Historian
    • Verification of the functionality of applications on a regular basis to ensure that they perform as anticipated and that the data collected is reasonable
    • Participate in the integration of other potential applications such as distribution power flow, short circuit analysis, FLISR, conservative voltage reduction, and state estimation.
    • Database maintenance related to applications controlling the electric grid (SCADA, State Estimation, DPF, Volt/Var Optimization, FLISR, etc)
    • Work with business/user community to determine functional or technical requirements to solve specific application problems or issues
    • Represent the organization in meetings to support new and emergent projects
    • Support and troubleshoot SCADA communication protocols (DNP, Modbus) and SCADA telemetry systems
    • Support departmental NERC Compliance requirements
    • Provide support for projects to implement new generation systems
    • Provide support for a multi-year project to upgrade SCADA communications
    • Provide support for a multi-year project to deploy Distribution SCADA and Automation
    • Provide support for a multi-year project to deploy Distribution Line Regulators and sensors
    • Work with field resources to perform Remote Telemetry Unit (RTU) configuration checkouts
    • Support historian interface requirements for data archival
    • Maintain and create where necessary documentation where the incumbent is a Subject Matter Expert
    • Participate in weekly scheduling meetings with field resources
    • Provide 7x24 on-call support to control centers on a rotating basis
    • Assist with Disaster Recovery testing and configuration

    Requirements/Qualifications:
    • Typically, two or more years of applied exempt working experience. Less than that, along with applicable experience, may be considered
    • ABET accredited bachelor's degree in Engineering or Computer Science is preferred. A two-year associate degree in a scientific/technical field OR applicable experience such as trade schools, military programs may be considered

    • Previous experience using/maintaining/integrating ESRI ArcGIS is desired.
    • Maintain and enhance knowledge of industry trends and new technology through educational sources and continuous learning.
    • The position shall be filled at the appropriate salary grade based upon the skills, knowledge, and experience of the selected candidate in the Engineering or Engineering Tech Analyst job family.
    • The incumbent may be required to work unusual or extended hours including weekends to respond to system emergencies or major storm-related restoration efforts.

    Hours and Travel:
    This position requires the individual work a minimum of 40 hours per week (45-50 typical) with 90% of time spent in the office or specific field locations. Travel is required to job sites and project meetings and could be significant dependent upon location. Individuals need to be willing to work additional hours as necessary to meet deadlines or assist with storm restoration activities. Individual should be willing to participate in the on call rotation in case of potential storms. Individual may have to work outside of assigned headquarters to help with storm restoration which may require overnight stays Individuals must have a valid driver's license.
